Texas Deputy Dies Following Cow Attack

A Smith County, Texas deputy died Monday as a result of head injuries sustained in a cow attack last Thursday, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Deputy Robert Britton was directing traffic around the animal, which had been struck and injured in the road, when it charged him and knocked him into the air.

The deputy reportedly landed head-first on the pavement and had to be rescued by other deputies as the cow continued its attack.

Britton, 54, died at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, where he'd been in intensive care since the incident.

The cow was euthanized after the attack.
