It's that time of year again: POLICE WEEK. Although it officially (according to legislation) is whatever week May 15th falls in (which means it STARTS this year on the 15th), the Candlelight Vigil is on the 13th and other events occur around that. Foremost on our minds and in our hearts should be honoring those brother and sister law enforcement professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This year Officer.com should have better coverage than ever. We'll be live-streaming the Candlelight Vigil online - and if you haven't registered for that yet you should visit the NLEOMF website to do that (www.nleomf.org). We'll be covering the Honor Guard Competition on the 14th and the Law Enforcement Memorial Service on the 15th. Staff and representatives will be in and around the Memorial area Thursday through Sunday and we look forward to seeing some of our readers there.

As we remember the fallen from 2010, we need to realistically consider 2011. At Officer.com our goal is to help officers get the information they need so that they can stay informed - and hopefully be a little safer on the streets. If we could reduce Police Week to honoring ZERO fallen officers we'd be happy. That should be the goal of every law enforcement professional in the country: NO officers, deputies, rangers, troopers etc killed in 2012. Can you work with that? Can we all strive for that goal?

Stay alert. Stay alive. Remember those who passed this way before us and made the ultimate sacrifice. Conduct yourself in a way that honors their service and memory.
