Las Vegas Police Officer Killed When Steel Beam Falls on Vehicle

A truck towing construction equipment caused a large beam to fall on a Las Vegas police officer's car, crushing the front of the vehicle and killing Det. Justin Terry.

A Las Vegas police officer died after a steel beam came crashing down on his car Friday.

The accident happened just after 7 a.m. along U.S. 95  at the Centennial Bowl construction project, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. A beam was struck by a truck towing construction equipment, causing it to fall on the vehicle of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Det. Justin Terry.

The steel beam crushed the front of the vehicle and killed Turner, according to KLAS-TV. Turner was on duty at the time.

"In a tragic accident on the freeway, one of our own lost their life," the Las Vegas Police Protection Association said in a statement. "Not only is this loss felt by all first responders in Nevada, but the community at large had also lost one of its (heroes). We pray for comfort for our fallen brother's family and friends, as well as our entire community."
