Las Vegas Police Officer Shot, Killed in Exchange of Gunfire

Authorities apprehended a 24-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of Las Vegas Police Officer Truong Thai, 49.

A Las Vegas police officer was killed Thursday morning after an exchange of gunfire.

The officer, Truong Thai, 49, was pronounced deceased at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Sheriff Joe Lombardo said at a news conference.

The shooting took place near the 800 block of East Flamingo Road.

The suspect, Tyson Hampton, 24, was taken into custody near East Desert Inn Road and South Eastern Avenue, Lombardo said.

The Clark County office issued a statement:

“Clark County joins with the entire community in mourning the death of Officer Truong Thai, following his tragic death in the line of duty while serving and protecting others. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and the entire LVMPD force.”
