In a statement, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said: “When our police officers leave their homes every day to go to work, they literally do not know whether — or when — they are coming home. They put themselves in harm’s way every day, and put their lives on the line — to protect the people of Philadelphia. ... They deserve our prayers and our support. I also want to thank all of the first responders and the doctors, nurses and medical personnel at Penn Presbyterian. They have our gratitude.”

Gov. Josh Shapiro wrote on X: “Lori and I are praying for the two Philadelphia police officers shot in the line of duty early this morning. Our hearts are with their families and their fellow officers.”

Police have not released the suspect’s identity or charges.
