At the National September 11 Memorial in lower Manhattan, relatives of victims participated in the annual reading of names while moments of silence marked the times when the hijacked airliners struck and when the Twin Towers collapsed. This year's observance also included recognition of those who later died from illnesses linked to their response and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the attacks. 

At the Pentagon Memorial, participants gathered to remember the 184 people killed when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Department of Defense headquarters. Military personnel, law enforcement officers and other dignitaries joined family members in honoring the victims and reflecting on how the attacks reshaped national security and public safety operations across the country.

In Shanksville, ceremonies at the Flight 93 National Memorial paid tribute to the passengers and crew who fought back against the hijackers aboard United Flight 93, preventing the aircraft from reaching its intended target.
