A Florida motorcycle officer died in "a horrific traffic accident" Thursday, according to the state's Fraternal Order of Police

Video footage from the crash scene shows a Pembroke Pines police motorcycle on its side on the roadway, surrounded by debris. The officer was "rushed (escorted by his law enforcement brothers) to the hospital and all life saving efforts were unsuccessful," the Florida State Fraternal Order of Police stated in a social media post.

Rod Skirvin, the Broward Police Benevolent Association's president, told WTVJ-TV that the officer might have been trying to avoid debris in the road when the crash happened. He said no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Following the crash, local law enforcement gathered outside where the officer was taken. Although the officer's identity has not been released, Skirvin told WTVJ that he had three children.

A stretch of the road where the crash was shut down by police as they investigated the incident.
