A Washington police motorcycle officer died in an on-duty collision with a car Monday.

The fatal crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. as Bellevue Police Officer Jordan Jackson was traveling on his department motorcycle along Bellevue Way, KING-TV reports. Tha's when another vehicle entered the roadway from a parking lot and struck Jackson.

Following the crash, Jackson was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The people inside the car were unhurt in the incident.

The incident is under investigation by the Washington State Police Major Accident Investigation Team. Investigators do not believe impairment or speed were factors in the collision.

“We are devastated by Officer Jackson’s tragic death,” said Chief Wendell Shirley. “Our hearts go out to his wife, two children, his family and friends, and extended BPD family as they grieve. This is a huge loss for the entire community.”

Jackson, 34, joined the department in 2018 and became a motorcycle officer in 2020. Before becoming a police officer, Jackson worked as an EMT, a volunteer firefighter and a member of the King County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Volunteer K-9 Unit.

He was recently honored as employee of the quarter “for his excellent quality of work and service to the community,” according to Bellevue police.

Jackson is survived by his wife and two children.
