Oct. 15, 2021
The names of 701 officers who died in the line of duty were added this year to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

A candlelight vigil was held Thursday at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., after last year's event was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In May 2020, the pandemic postponed in-person events for National Police Week. Those events were moved to this week as part of Police Weekend 2021.

Along with the vigil, the weekend includes C.O.P.S. National Police Survivors' Conference and the Destination Zero Conference and awards on Friday. The Fraternal Order of Police also will hold its 40th Annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service at the U.S. Capitol on Saturday.
