Hinton, a 25-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran, was killed when his patrol car struck the rear of a tractor-trailer on U.S. 43 in Clarke County and caught fire.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Thomasville Civic Center as agencies and residents continue to honor his life and service.

The family of a Thomasville police officer who was killed in a fiery crash as he was nearing the end of his shift said the community’s prayers and support are the reason they are getting through the devastating loss.

“These last few days have been very difficult but the outpouring of love and support that we have received has afforded us a sense of peace and understanding that we are not alone and we will continue on knowing that we are supported from every direction,” the family said in Sunday statement.

“The amount of love, support, and community togetherness that was felt when we escorted Dallas back home from Mobile was overwhelmingly the greatest gift we could have received in his honor,” the statement read.

Officer Dallas Hinton, a 25-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran, died Wednesday morning.

The wreck happened at 5:02 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 43 near mile marker 90 in Clarke County.

Alabama State Troopers said Hinton’s police cruiser – a 2025 Dodge Charger – struck the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 66-year-old Armon L. Washington of Mobile.

Hinton’s police car burst into flames, and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

His body was taken to Mobile for autopsy and returned back to his final destination with a full procession involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Thomasville Civic Center.

“We want every single person to please know that your prayers and support are the reason we are getting through this,” the family said. “He is honored.”
