A St. Louis police officer died Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency during a training exercise.

Officer Gregory Triplett, 58, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition following an unspecified medical issue while training, the department stated in a social media post. He died at the hospital.

Triplett, who had been with the department for nearly 32 years, "fought till the very end," according to the department. 

"We’re devastated," the department stated.
