What to know

  • Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy launched a fundraising campaign selling merchandise to support the family of Delaware State Police Cpl. Matthew “Ty” Snook, who was fatally shot while responding to an active shooter incident.

  • Police said Snook was killed during an overtime assignment at a Wilmington Division of Motor Vehicles, and the suspect was later fatally shot by a county police officer.

  • Portnoy said 100% of proceeds will go to the family and be matched by him, with the effort nearing $500,000 as the agency and community honor the fallen trooper.

Portnoy is raising money by selling custom T-shirts and hoodies. The front of the apparel shows a Delaware State Police logo, while the back has a Thin Blue Line flag.

"As always 100% of proceeds will go directly to them and I will match 100%," he wrote.

On Thursday, Portnoy said the campaign was close to earning $500,000 for the family. Go to Barstool Sports website to purchase the items.

A Delaware native, Snook had been with the agency for a decade. He is survived by his wire and a year-old daughter.

On Wednesday, a procession escorted Snook's body to a funeral home as first responders lined its route. Makeshift memorials of flowers also were created at state police barracks, according to CBS News.

“The outpouring of support shown today serves as a powerful reminder that Cpl/1 Snook’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said Col. William D. Crotty, superintendent for the state police, said in a statement.
