Mo. Police Officer Killed During SWAT Raid to Serve Warrant

Sikeston Police Officer Henry Franklin was fatally shot as a SWAT unit tried to serve a warrant in a homicide investigation at a Mississippi County home.

  • Sikeston Department of Public Safety Officer Henry Franklin, 41, was fatally shot Monday while serving a homicide warrant in Mississippi County.

  • The suspect opened fire on a SWAT team and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an hourslong standoff.

  • Franklin, a 12-year department veteran, K-9 handler, and Army National Guard member, is survived by his wife and four children.

“Our department has suffered an unimaginable loss,” Public Safety Director James McMillen said in a statement. “We ask that you keep Franklin’s family and our department in your prayers.”

Franklin, 41, had been with the department since June 2013. He had served as a K-9 handler and had been a member of the Army National Guard.

Franklin is survived by his wife and four children.
