A Tennessee police officer died when he was struck by a tractor-trailer while working at an accident scene Saturday.
The incident involving Memphis Police Officer Darrell Adams happened just after 11 a.m. along Interstate 40, the department stated in a news release. While investigating a two-car crash, Adams was fatally injured by an oncoming 18-wheeler.
"Today, my heart aches again for the loss of another dedicated servant of our city. I am in deep prayer for our officer's family and the men and women of the Memphis Police Department," Chief Cerelyn Davis stated in a social media post.
Adams, 34, had been with the force since April 2016.
"We thank him for five years of faithful service to our community," the department stated.
The tractor-trailer's driver was detained, but no charges were filed. The incident is under investigation.
