New Mexico Deputy Killed in On-Duty Crash

Valencia County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Thomas died Tuesday night after a single-vehicle wreck.

A Valencia County, New Mexico Sheriff’s deputy died Tuesday night following a single-vehicle wreck.

Deputy Ryan Thomas was traveling northbound on Manzano Expressway around 9 p.m. while responding to a call for service when he lost control of his vehicle, according to The News-Bulletin.

The 30-year-old deputy Thomas was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomas had been employed with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office for about year.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
