The Hughes Police Department has been designated as inactive because it had not complied with law enforcement training standards, according to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety.

An Arkansas police department has been shut down and removed from service by the state.

A spokeswoman with the Arkansas Department of Public Safety told WREG-TV that the Hughes Police Department had been designated as inactive because it had not complied with law enforcement training standards. It's unclear what specifically led to the designation.

Under guidelines by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, a law enforcement agency is deemed inactive if it has operated at some time in the past but has been shut down for at least six months.
