U.S. Capitol Police have asked the Pentagon for assistance from the National Guard ahead of Saturday's rally in Washington, D.C.
In a briefing Wednesday, a Pentagon spokesman said officials are reviewing the request, which was "not an exorbitant ask," Forbes reports. The request from the Capitol Police was "for the ability to receive National Guard support should the need arise."
About 700 people are expected to participate in the weekend Justice for J6 rally, according to the Department of Homeland Security. More than a dozen other events are also scheduled around the county, NBC News and CBS News report.
