St. Paul, Minnesota, October 23, 2019 – Global Traffic Technologies (GTT), the market leader in traffic signal preemption, is launching a new solution designed especially for law enforcement agencies.

Opticom™ Emergency Vehicle Preemption for law enforcement gives officers the green light at intersections, allowing them to safely and quickly respond to calls. Officers can provide better outcomes thanks to response time reductions of up to 25 percent and reduced intersection crash rates of 70 percent, according to federal studies.*

Details of the solution will be discussed at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Association’s (IACP) annual conference planned for Oct. 26-29, in Chicago. Visit GTT at Booth 1055 to learn how some law enforcement agencies are already leveraging existing preemption infrastructure to respond to emergencies more quickly and safely. GTT product experts will be on hand to answer all your questions about integration and implementation.

GTT’s industry-leading Opticom™ Emergency Vehicle Preemption solutions have enabled first responders to preempt traffic signals for more than 50 years, but GTT’s new offering for law enforcement addresses concerns that many cities have had about how that preemption by law enforcement agencies would impact everyday traffic.

GTT’s solution for law enforcement considers Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) data when determining if a preemption request will be made. Local agencies will have the flexibility to determine which types of calls will be given priority status. For example, some agencies might have a blanket policy where only the most serious calls would get pre-emption. Other cities might choose to allow officers to determine when preemption is necessary.

The solution was developed with input from dozens of agencies across the United States, GTT’s product manager Chad Mack said.

“Over the past year, we’ve heard that many people think Opticom is just for fire or EMS users,” Mack said. “The fact that we can assign priority based on incident type opens up new opportunities for law enforcement so that they can get the green light when they need it.”

Throughout the IACP conference, GTT representatives will be able to answer any questions about Opticom for law enforcement. Stop by Booth 1055 to learn more, register to win wireless headphones or just grab a fresh, warm chocolate chip cookie.
