N.C. Deputies, Police Stop Car After Man Clings to Hood for Nearly 5 Miles

Kinston police and Lenoir County sheriff's deputies safely pulled over a vehicle after a man clung to the hood for roughly 4.5 miles, allowing him to escape the ordeal unharmed.

What to Know

  • A woman is accused of driving nearly 4.5 miles at speeds up to 60 mph while her boyfriend clung to the hood of her car during what authorities called a rolling domestic incident.
  • The vehicle was safely stopped by Lenoir County sheriff's deputies and Kinston police, allowing the man to get off the hood unharmed and be evaluated at the scene.
  • Authorities said a 3-year-old child was inside the vehicle, and the driver now faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

The car was stopped with assistance from the Kinston Police Department, allowing the man to safely climb off the hood, officials said. He was assessed at the scene and found to be uninjured, the sheriff’s office said.

An investigation revealed Greenfield-Williams, 23, was driving on a revoked license and the car had a fictitious tag, police said.

She has been charged with:

  • Felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present
  • Reckless driving to endanger
  • Resisting a public officer (She is accused of refusing to get in the patrol car, officials say.)
  • Misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
  • Driving with license revoked
  • Driving with a fictitious/altered tag or registration card

Kinston is about an 80-mile drive southeast from downtown Raleigh.
