Two Puerto Rico corrections officers who were part of an extradition team were killed in a crash near Stillwater, Okla. early Thursday morning.
Four members of the Puerto Rico Department of Corrections were traveling in a van to the Cimarron Prison Facility in Cushing when the crash occurred around 5 a.m., killing officers Mayra Ramirez and Eliezer Colon-Claussells, according to The Tulsa World.
The extradition team was going to pick up an inmate or inmates being released from the prison.
A 1995 Jeep was driving north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 177 when it collided with the 2013 Ford Van driven by the extradition team.
Ramirez, who was driving the van, and Michell Marie Anastasia, the driver of the Jeep, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Colon-Claussells was transported to Stillwater Medical Center where he later died.
Corrections officers Anthony Vega and Juan Rosario were listed in serious condition at the hospital.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said that all of the victims were wearing seat belts and that it was raining at the time of the crash.
