A North Carolina state probation and parole officer was killed Thursday after he was rear-ended by a truck while driving his state-issued car.
The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 70 and Old Salisbury Road, about 3.5 miles east of Statesville, according to the Salisbury Post. Officer Jeffrey Settle, 41, was reportedly killed on impact.
Settle was stopped at the intersection when he was rear-ended by a Time Warner Cable truck. He was on duty at the time of the incident, the newspaper reports.
Settle began his career with the Department of Correction in 1993. He is survived by his wife and three children.
