GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- Leonardo U.S. Cyber & Security Solutions has introduced SignalTrace, a passive electronic signature detection technology designed to help law enforcement and other organizations analyze publicly broadcast wireless signals and identify recurring patterns.
SignalTrace is the new name for Leonardo's technology formerly known as EOC Plus. The solution detects publicly broadcast electronic emissions, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RFID and other supported wireless signals, and creates anonymous electronic signatures that can be analyzed over time.
According to Leonardo U.S. Cyber & Security Solutions, SignalTrace does not identify individuals, access communications or retrieve information stored on personal devices. Instead, it recognizes recurring electronic signatures and their observed locations, providing an additional source of data for situational awareness and operational analysis.

SignalTrace recognizes recurring electronic signatures and helps organizations uncover meaningful relationships that support better operational awareness and more informed decisions.”
The technology can also be used alongside Automatic License Plate Recognition (LPR) systems. The company said the combination can correlate recurring electronic signatures with vehicle observations, potentially giving investigators additional context when examining recurring associations or situations involving different vehicles or altered or fraudulent license plates.
SignalTrace can operate independently of LPR systems or integrate with other sensor technologies. Leonardo U.S. Cyber & Security Solutions said potential applications include public safety, security and situational awareness, critical infrastructure monitoring, transportation analytics, operational intelligence and multi-sensor data correlation.
The company said SignalTrace observes electronic signals already being broadcast in the public domain. Its use is intended to provide an additional layer of observational data that can complement existing technologies within established legal, operational and governance frameworks.
For law enforcement agencies, the technology could provide another data source for investigative and situational awareness efforts, particularly when combined with other sensor systems. Its deployment and use would need to align with applicable legal requirements, agency policies and governance procedures.
