FREMONT, California -- Durabook has introduced the R12 Rugged Tablet, an edge artificial intelligence (AI) platform designed to process data locally for public safety, defense and industrial teams operating in mobile or disconnected environments.
Announced Oct. 22, 2026, the R12 features an Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processor and up to 412 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of combined AI computing performance. The platform can process data from cameras, sensors and connected systems locally, supporting AI inference, computer vision and other software-enabled applications in the field.
The tablet provides up to 180 TOPS of integrated AI performance, with an optional discrete graphics processing unit (GPU) adding 232 TOPS. This configuration allows agencies and organizations to scale computing resources for demanding workloads.
The R12 features a 12.2-inch DynaVue sunlight-readable display with brightness up to 1,200 nits. The screen is designed to display maps, imagery, sensor outputs and multiple information layers. An optional detachable backlit keyboard supports tasks requiring physical input.
“Rugged, powerful, and mission-ready, this Durabook tablet is taking its rightful place supporting AI at the edge for professionals in the field,” said Sasha Wang, president, Durabook Americas. “The R12 Rugged Tablet enables a clearer view of information in mobile, space-constrained, or disconnected environments.”
Durabook said the tablet can receive and locally process data, including 4K video and 8K content, when network connectivity is unreliable. Connectivity options include 2.5-gigabit Ethernet, Thunderbolt 4, USB and 4G/5G cellular support. The device also offers an optional configuration with two RJ-45 ports.
Security features include Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, Windows 11 Secured-core PC, a fingerprint scanner and a quick-release solid-state drive. The tablet also includes a 5-megapixel infrared camera for Windows Hello and a 13-megapixel rear camera, both with dynamic shutter designs.
For extended field operations, the R12 uses a dual removable-battery design, with optional hot-swappable, high-capacity batteries. Durabook lists battery life of up to 20 hours.
The tablet meets MIL-STD-810H, six-foot drop and IP66 standards. It also meets MIL-STD-461G for electromagnetic compatibility and carries ANSI/UL C1D2 certification for use in specified hazardous locations.
An optional NVIDIA RTX 2000 Ada graphics configuration provides workstation-class graphics performance for demanding visual and compute-intensive applications.
