Video: Biden Signs 3 Executive Orders to Help Law Enforcement
President Joe Biden signed three bills Thursday to help police, law enforcement and other first responders.
Here's a breakdown of the pieces of legislation that Biden signed into law during a ceremony, according to the White House:
- Protecting America's First Responders Act: Expands requirements and increases certain benefits under the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Program so that officers injured in the line of duty receive their benefits quickly.
- Confidentiality Opportunities for Peer Support Counseling Act: Prohibits Federal law enforcement officers from disclosing the contents of peer support communications and requires the Justice Department to develop a report on best practices and professional standards for peer support counseling programs for first responder agencies.
- Jaime Zapata and Victor Avila Federal Officers and Employees Protection Act: grants the United States extraterritorial jurisdiction over certain crimes committed against a Federal officer or employee serving abroad.
