The Columbia Police Department officer who was injured in a weekend shooting was released from the hospital Sunday while funeral arrangements were made for his fellow officer who died in the line of duty.

Officer David Dymock has gone home to continue his recovery following Saturday’s double fatal shooting at Southeast Park in Columbia.

“We are grateful to share that Officer David Dymock’s condition has improved, and he has been released from the hospital,” police said on social media.

Officer Chris DeLong, 28, died in the shooting.

The suspect in the shooting, 33-year-old Prosperity resident Adam Dowdy, also was killed during the incident, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said Saturday during a news conference.

There has been an outpouring of support for DeLong, who was with the department for 2 years and is survived by his wife and two young children.

While there was a large police turnout to escort Dymock out of the hospital Sunday, the department asked the community to help him in the next step of the process.

“As Officer Dymock continues his recovery and recuperation at home, we ask that you continue to keep him and his family in your prayers,” police said on the social media post. “The road to recovery continues, and we know the support surrounding him will mean so much in the days ahead.”

Also Sunday, Dunbar Funeral Home announced funeral arrangements for DeLong.

On Thursday, a visitation will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, at 3926 Devine St. in Columbia, according to an obituary. The visitation will run from 5-7 p.m.

A funeral service will take place at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, at 201 Lake Murray Blvd. in Irmo, on Friday, at 11 a.m., according to the obituary. A burial will follow the service at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, at 11020 Two Notch Road in Elgin.

The Columbia Police Department said it “extends our appreciation to everyone who has reached out, offered assistance, shared words of encouragement, made donations and continued to keep both of our officers and their families in your prayers.”
