A Texas police department has had its licenses revoked by the state, shutting down the agency.

The final day for the Trinidad Police Department is set for Sept. 18, KETK-TV reports. The disbanding of the department comes after Texas Commission of Law Enforcement (TCOLE) investigators found that the agency didn't meet minimum standards required by the state following an Aug. 5 inspection.

According to a letter to the city from TCOLE, the department failed to produce evidence that it met state standards in some of the following areas:

• provides public benefit to the community
• has a bullet-resistant vest for every officer on duty
• has an evidence room
• has policies for use of force, vehicle pursuits, active shooters and other areas
• has an established administrative structure

The department has five full-time officers and multiple part-timers. City leaders will meet Friday to discuss legal action to keep the department open, KDFW-TV reports.

Once the department stops operating, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office will provide law enforcement coverage to the area.

During a city council meeting Tuesday, interim Trinidad Police Chief Cameron Beckham blasted the leadership of former Chief Charles Gregory for the current issues with the department, according to KDFW. He added that he's worked to fix those problems while in command.

"Piss-poor management is what I'm just going to say," Beckham said at the meeting.

Gregory resigned in June following the arrest of two citizen journalists in separate incidents. Charges were dismissed in both cases, and the city and Gregory face a federal lawsuit from one of the journalists, who claimed her arrest was part of "political retaliation."
