A Pennsylvania police department has shut down at the beginning of the year after serving its community for 99 years.

The last day for the New Holland Police Department was Dec. 31, according to a social media post from the agency. In July, the New Holland Borough Council voted to contract its law enforcement coverage, and West Earl Township police began providing services Jan. 1, WHTM-TV reports.

"We want to take a minute and thank our incredible community for all the support and trust you have given to the New Holland Police Department over the past 99 years," the department stated in its farewell message. "It has been an honor to serve this community."

With the closing, the department's station has shut down. Some officers also will be continuing with the West Earl Township police force, according to the agency.

"Together with the officers of West Earl, we remain committed to ensuring the continued safety and high level of service to our residents," the department stated.
