What to know
- A 20-year-old man, previously out on bond for an April shooting, had his bond revoked after being charged with attempted murder in a May 31 pool party shooting in Hickory.
- The party shooting left one dead and multiple people injured when shots were fired from a hillside.
- The revocation of the suspect's bond came after Hickory Police Chief Reed Baer and Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown publicly expressed their frustration over the man's freedom.
After law enforcement officials expressed outrage that a man accused in the Hickory party shooting was allowed a bond Wednesday, a judge on Thursday revoked his bond in a prior shooting case.
That means Garon Nathaniel Killian, 20, will remain in the Catawba County jail.
Killian was charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the party shooting; District Judge Mark Killian granted him a $200,000 bond in that case on Wednesday.
He was already out on bond in an April shooting, in which Killian was charged with seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, going armed to the terror of the public, and discharging a firearm in the Hickory city limits.
A judge on Thursday revoked a bond stemming from that April 6 shooting, in which Killian and another man were accused of firing into a crowd during a fight. No one was injured. WBTV reported the bond being revoked.
Catawba Sheriff Don Brown and Hickory Police Chief Reed Baer both said Wednesday they were frustrated that Killian was granted a bond that day in the party shooting case.
More arrested after pool party
The Catawba sheriff, SBI and FBI continue to investigate the pool party shooting from early morning on May 31, and announced Wednesday that shots were fired from a hillside toward people at the pool at the home at 1125 Walnut Acres Drive in the Mountain View community.
Police have said they are still determining a motive in the case.
The party was advertised as a topless pool party on social media. However, no one was nude in footage from the party.
Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, of Lenoir, was shot and killed. Eight to 10 others were injured from gunfire, and several others were injured while fleeing, police said.
The barrage of bullets sent a swarm of party-goers to an adjacent neighborhood on Winding Oak Drive trying to escape the shooting and find help.
Here’s a look at who law enforcement has charged in addition to Killian:
Toland Huff Jr., 20, and Ke’andre O’neal Mack, 19, of Hickory, were charged Wednesday with attempted first-degree murder. Police were searching for both of them as of Thursday afternoon.
Izaiah Kane Mitchell, 18, and Zachary Michael Bates, 22, who are both from Morganton, were charged with attempted first-degree murder, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.
Raekwon Malik Craig, 21, of Taylorsville, and Patrick Lee Tolbert, 22, of Hickory, were charged with allowing alcohol to minors as part of the party planning.
And an 18-year-old woman from Caldwell County was also arrested, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Zoe Makenna Braswell was charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder.
