Tennessee Police Officer Dies While On Duty

Fairfield Glade Police Officer Jerry Singleton died of apparent natural causes while on duty New Year's Eve.

Fairfield Glade, Tennessee -- A Fairfield Glade police officer died of apparent natural causes while on duty New Year's Eve.

Officer Jerry Singleton was on the job on Dec. 31 when he died, according to a news release.

The 52-year-old served in law enforcement for over 30 years and worked for the Harriman Police Department, Kingston Police Department, Rockwood Police Department, and the Roane County Sheriff’s Office prior to working with the Fairfield Glade Police Department. Singleton joined the Fairfield Glade Police Department in May of 2019.

"This is an extremely tough day for our department. Jerry was liked by all and he had the ability to connect with everyone," Police Chief Michael Williams said in a statement. "Officer Singleton died while serving and this is what he loved to do."

He survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Corey and Brooke Singleton and his grandson: Cage Singleton.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation is schedule for Saturday January 4, 2020 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the gymnasium of Roane State Community College.

Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m. and funeral services will follow with Rev. Jim Disney and Rev. Corey Jones officiating.

Graveside services will be Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Davis Cemetery in Coalfield.

In honor of Jerry’s late son, J.C., the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital,
