The story of how GT Distributors became the company it is today

2017 marks GT Distributors 45^th year serving America’s public safety professionals! On April 1st of 1972, GT Distributors opened its doors in Rossville, Georgia. Bill Orr, our founder, had two suppliers: Smith & Wesson and Colt. At the time, Smith & Wesson offered a range of products from firearms, body armor, tear gas, night vision, radar, ammunition, lightbars and sirens. Today GT carries over 500 brands, and over 20,000 products!

The name ‘GT’ originally came from the fact that our first location is one block from the Georgia and Tennessee state line. This location is at 100 McFarland Road in Rossville, Georgia. The north portion of our building is on the Tennessee state line. Now that we have a store in Texas, we like to think that GT means Georgia and Texas!

In February 1985, GT Distributors opened a small store in Austin, Texas store with only two employees. Today, the Austin, TX location occupies a 31,000 sq. foot building with over 80 employees. This location is now our corporate HQ and has become the largest showroom in Texas and the five surrounding neighboring states.

Later, we opened our next retail location in Dallas, Texas in November 2010 with over 9,000 sq. feet of products to better serve Dallas-Fort Worth, North Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

Finally, in early 2017, we’ve opened our fourth location in Jacksonville, Florida. This has expanded our ability to serve the Florida and Georgia with over 7,000 sq. feet of retail space.

Our stores and HQ serve as homebase for our agency team. Agency sales and service are a huge focus for GT and we’ve developed multiple resources to meet your needs or your agency’s needs:
