Omaha Officer, Suspect Wounded in Shootout

Officer Jill Schillerberg and Monroe G. Evans III were both wounded in a shootout Monday.

An Omaha, Nebraska police officer was wounded in a shootout with a suspect Monday afternoon.

Officer Jill Schillerberg responded to a call with other officers about a suspicious person looking into car windows in the area of 31st Street and Turner Boulevard around 12:53 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to KETV.

Police found Monroe G. Evans III, who was armed with a handgun, and shots were exchanged between the suspect and the 16-year veteran of the force.

Schillerberg was hit in the left lower leg and Evans was struck multiple times.

Both were transported to Nebraska Medical Center. Schillerberg was treated and released while Evans is currently being treated. His condition is unknown.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
