A Miam-Dade police officer in the Marine Patrol Unit rescued a dolphin who was trapped in a fishing net
Last month, Officer Nelson Silva received a call about a dolphin in distress in the Shorecrest area, the department stated in a social media post. Once he located the animal, he discovered that it had become ensnared in a fishing net.
Body camera footage shows Silva moving closer to the dolphin and then trying to untangle the net with a hook. But the frightened dolphin continued to thrash and remained caught.
Finally, Silva used a knife to cut away the net and free the dolphin.
"I got you, buddy," the officer can be heard telling the dolphin.
