What to Know

  • An Ohio man wanted on an attempted murder charge allegedly led law enforcement on a multi-agency pursuit through Summit County, firing at a state trooper, carjacking a minivan and driving across a golf course before crashing.
  • Bystander video captured part of the chase as the suspect raced through Fox Den Golf Course with patrol vehicles pursuing him, narrowly passing golfers who initially thought he was surrendering.
  • The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a Summit County Metro Parks police cruiser, flipping it onto its roof; the officer suffered minor injuries, and the suspect was later found hiding behind a residence and arrested.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a Canton man is now in custody after leading law enforcement on a mileslong chase Tuesday that included multiple crashes and saw him fire at a state trooper and steal a minivan in Summit County. According to a release from the OSHP, 39-year-old Julius Edwards was wanted for attempted murder and fled from both Canton police and U.S. Marshals in a gray Kia Telluride just after 3:15 p.m. Flock Safety cameras in Stow spotted the vehicle around 7:17 p.m. before troopers attempted to pull the car over on state Route 91 in Hudson around 10 minutes later. However, after troopers say he failed to slow down and they terminated the pursuit, Edwards allegedly ran through a red light at Terex Road and crashed into at least one other vehicle. The highway patrol has since confirmed multiple people suffered serious injuries. From there, the OSHP says Edwards ran away on foot and shot his gun at a trooper, who then returned fire (no one was struck). After Edwards fled into the woods, officials worked to locate him, but sometime before 8:25 p.m. he is accused of carjacking a Chrysler Town and Country minivan and once again speeding away from law enforcement. That chase saw the suspect lead officers into Stow, including across Fox Den Golf Course. Multiple people captured the pursuit as it made its way over the links.
