DETROIT, MI – An investigation is underway after two Detroit police officers were hospitalized following a crash.
Injuries to both officers are not considered to be life-threatening, police said.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, near Gratiot Avenue and Lappin Street.
Jasmin Barmore, media director for the Detroit Police Department, briefed media outlets Saturday night with details about the collision.
Officers were driving in the left lane preparing to turn left onto Gratiot when their cruiser was struck by a pickup truck that ran a red light, Barmore said.
Both officers were taken to an area hospital for treatment. One person in the truck was also taken to the hospital while another refused treatment.
“People just need to slow down and have more patience,” Barmore said. “Trying to fly through red lights and what’s it going to save you? Two seconds?”
The crash is still under investigation.
