Watch Stolen Tractor-Trailer Catch Fire in Chase with Calif. Highway Patrol

Feb. 22, 2024
The California Highway Patrol arrested a man who allegedly carjacked a tractor-trailer at a Bakersfield gas station and led officers on a multi-county chase that ended with the vehicle in flames.

A multi-county chase involving the California Highway Patrol and a carjacked tractor-trailer Wednesday ended with an arrest and the big rig catching fire.

CHP officers began the pursuit at about 11 p.m. in Santa Clarita after a man allegedly carjacked a tractor-trailer at a gas station, KTTV-TV reports. The chase continued into Pasadena before finally ending in Ontario.

That's when officers used spike strips, which tore through the front wheels and front bumper. The suspect continued driving on the vehicle's rims, which sparked as the tractor-trailer kept moving.

The sparks eventually set the trator-trailer's cab on fire, and the suspect stopped and jumped out of the vehicle. The man ran up an embankment and jumped a fence before officers apprehended him.
