Video: 2 Okla. Police Cruisers Catch Fire Following Chase

Feb. 9, 2024
Oklahoma City police had been chasing a suspect in connection with a home invasion report when two parked cruisers suddenly burst into flames.

Two Oklahoma police cruisers caught fire Thursday following the pursuit of a home invasion suspect.

The incident happened when Oklahoma City police spotted a vehicle connected with a report of a home invasion and tried to make a stop, KOCO-TV reports. A chase ensued as the suspect fled, and the driver was able to elude police.

Officers eventually found the vehicle, and another chase began. Police were finally able to apprehend the suspect, as well as several others at another scene.

After the second pursuit had ended, two parked cruisers suddenly burst into flames.

"If we park our police cars on tall grass, especially after a pursuit or something like that, sometimes it can get so hot that it causes a fire. And that's why we believe both cars caught fire," said Capt. Benjamin Weir.

No one was injured by the fire.
