A "habitual offender" with a history of pursuits with Houston police reached speeds of up to 130 mph and had sparks flying from his car before jumping out and trying to escape on foot with a dog following behind him.

Houston police apprehended a suspect who led officers on a fiery high-speed chase Tuesday before trying to escape on foot with a dog that was with him following behind.

News helicopter footage of the pursuit shows the suspect in a Dodge Charger weaving in and out of traffic and slamming into multiple cars along Interstate 45 North, KTRK-TV reports. A shower of sparks can be seen trailing his vehicle as he reached speeds of up to 130 mph in the chase that lasted nearly an hour.

The suspect eventually maneuvered the car to the side of the interstate and jumped out of the vehicle. He was followed by a dog that had also been in the car.

The suspect tried to hide under a car in a nearby parking lot, but that didn't fool police, who took him into custody.

Police told KTRK that the suspect, who was not identified, was a known gang member and a "habitual offender" who had been involved in previous police pursuits. No injuries were reported in the incident.
