Sunday afternoon, the New Hampshire state police arrested a man who allegedly stole an Amazon delivery truck before fleeing the authorities in a motor vehicle chase down Interstate 93 South, officials said.

On Nov. 13 around 2:45 p.m., the Concord Police Department received a report of a stolen Amazon truck that was taken while making deliveries on South Fruit Street, state police said.

According to police, the vehicle was tracked via cell phone and was traveling down I-93 South. New Hampshire State police tracked down the truck and attempted a motor vehicle stop on I-93 in Hooksett. However, the vehicle refused to stop, prompting police to initiate a motor vehicle pursuit.

Police pursued the vehicle through Hooksett and Manchester. Eventually, the truck stopped at a dead-end road on the north side of Manchester on Elm Street, police said.

When the driver – later identified as Richard Royea, 40, – exited the vehicle he refused to comply with state troopers’ commands. The state police K-9 Ragnar was deployed to apprehend the Royea. He continued to be non-compliant even when taken into custody, police said.

Both Royea and a state police trooper were taken to Concord Hospital to be evaluated and treated for injuries.

As for now, Royea is being charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest/detention, aggravated driving while intoxicated, disobeying a police officer, reckless operation and license required (operating without a license), according to the state police.

The Concord Police Department is also charging Royea with motor vehicle theft-related charges, the state police said.

Royea refused bail and is to be arraigned in Merrimack Superior Court with a pending date.
