A Miami-Dade police officer was critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Florida Turnpike on Wednesday.
The accident happened just before 3:20 p.m., the Miami Herald reports. Miami-Dade Police Officer Alexis Rodriguez, a narcotics officer who has been with the department for roughly two decades, was in an unmarked police SUV with a K-9 partner.
Rodriguez broke several bones in the crash, which caused extensive damage to his vehicle's windshield. He was flown to the hospital in critical but stable condition and is expected to recover. The K-9 suffered minor injuries and was taken to an animal hospital.
No details have been released concerning how the accident happened and the nature of Rodriguez/s injuries. It was unclear if he was on duty at the time.
