STONINGTON, CT—Connecticut State Police said a suspect that led troopers on a pursuit from Massachusetts into Connecticut is in custody Wednesday afternoon.
State police were assisting troopers from Rhode Island and Massachusetts after the pursuit of a potentially armed man ended in Stonington Wednesday afternoon.
"As a precautionary measure only, Troop E has reached out to area schools in Stonington. (State police) will have more information as it develops," Brian Foley, a spokesperson for the Connecticut State Police, said in a tweet.
In a followup tweet, Foley wrote that the scene "is active but contained."
"At this point, no immediate threat to the area. However the business districts and schools have been notified by the Connecticut state police of the situation," he continued.
Massachusetts State Police said in a tweet just before 11:45 a.m. that officers were searching for a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that fled during a pursuit. The agency said a man was believed to be operating the truck and that he was "possibly armed."
In updates, the agency said the vehicle had fled into Rhode Island, and then headed west into Connecticut, where the vehicle was stopped and a perimeter was set up.
Massachusetts State Police asked members of the public and news helicopters to keep their distance from the scene.
Footage from a television news helicopter posted by WFSB showed the white pickup truck apparently crashed along the side of a two-lane road in a wooded area. An armored police car could be seen parked nearby with armed officers.
