Stolen Dump Truck Rams Maine Police Cruiser, Crashes at School

Three Massachusetts residents were arrested in connection with stealing a dump truck and leading Maine police on a dangerous pursuit that ended with a crash on a school playground.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday, Lewiston police were alerted that a stolen dump truck out of Marlborough was driving in the downtown area, according to a police statement. The truck had been reported stolen about 12 hours earlier.

Officers found the truck near Bartlett Street and Walnut Street and attempted to stop it. The truck rammed a police cruiser and drove away down Howe Street, police said.

The truck entered the rear parking lot of Governor Longley Elementary School and crashed into a playground fence. The occupants tried to run but were arrested by police.

The driver was identified as Antonio Moralespijoan, a 23-year-old Marlborough man. Also in the truck were Angelika Almeida, a 20-year-old Lawrence woman, and Steven Grossi, a 37-year-old Lowell man.

Moralespijoan was charged with reckless conduct, aggravated criminal mischief, refusing to submit to arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, theft by receiving stolen property and theft by unauthorized use of property.

Grossi was charged with theft by unauthorized use of property, possession of stolen property and refusing to submit to arrest. Almeida was charged with theft by unauthorized use of property and possession of stolen property.
