Scary Collision Sends Calif. Deputy's Cruiser Flying onto Boulders

Dec. 19, 2023
A Ventura County sheriff's deputy and his K-9 partner crashed head on with a suspected intoxicated driver, sending the unit flying through the air and onto rocks above the ocean shoreline.

A California deputy was injured in a scary head-on crash Saturday that sent his cruiser airborne into rocks along with ocean shoreline.

The incident happened at around 8:40 p.m. as a Ventura County sheriff's deputy and his K-9 partner were on their way to a call about a suspicious person in a parking lot, the agency stated in a social media post. When the deputy was traveling on Pacific Coast Highway, another vehicle collided with his cruiser head on.

The crash sent the cruiser off the road, and the unit went flying through the air, landing on boulders just above the shoreline. Photos from the scene show the cruiser hanging precariously from the rocks, with the ocean waves crashing below.

The deputy was rushed to the hospital, and his injuries weren't considered life-threatening. The K-9 suffered a minor facial cut.

The driver, who was treated at the hospital, was arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
