Dec. 22, 2022
A 33-year-old driver was killed when she crossed the double line on a road in Chaplin and struck a Connecticut State Police trooper in a Ford F-350, flipping the agency vehicle on its side.

A North Windham woman was killed in a crash after she hit a state trooper in a state-owned vehicle nearly head-on, according to the Connecticut State Police.

A Nissan Maxima driven by Lindsey Bidwell, 33, of North Windham was traveling west on Route 6 toward the intersection with Nyberg Road in Chaplin after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was traveling around a curve when it crossed over a double yellow and entered into the other lane, striking a state trooper’s vehicle in the right of two eastbound lanes, state police said.

The Nissan’s driver-side front end collided with the driver-side front end of the trooper’s Ford F-350. The Ford rolled over onto its right side and came to a rest in the eastbound roadside. The Nissan stopped between the left eastbound lane and the westbound lane.

Bidwell sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to Hartford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her next of kin were notified by hospital staff, state police said.

The trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Windham Hospital, state police said.

The state police are investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Sergeant Mark DiCocco at [email protected].
