ST. LOUIS—A 27-year-old man was arrested Saturday after trying to carjack a marked patrol vehicle from two St. Louis officers, police said.

Two city officers were responding to a shots fired call near Chouteau and South Seventh Street when a man stepped into traffic on Chouteau near South Tucker Boulevard and blocked the car's path.

The man walked to the passenger's side of the police car and pointed a handgun at the officers, hoping to carjack the vehicle, when he realized that he was trying to steal a fully marked police car, police said.

The man took off running. Other officers responded to the area, arresting the man and finding a gun in his possession.

Neither officer was injured. An investigation continues.
