A Rhode Island state trooper has been released from the hospital with minor injuries after an alleged drunk driver slammed into two cruisers.

Around midnight on Monday, troopers were investigating a crash on Route 95 south of the Orms Street overpass when 22-year-old Katie Tornez, of Providence, driving a red Honda, veered into the slow lane where the cruisers were parked, emergency lights flashing.

Tornez proceeded to hit one cruiser, pushing it to the side, then she hit a second cruiser.

The trooper who was injured as a result was treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

Tornez was charged with a DUI and refusing to submit to a chemical test. She was held overnight at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and arraigned in Providence District Court the next morning.
