Tennessee Police Officer Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

Brentwood Police Officer as Destin Legieza was killed in a two-vehicle crash while returning to the precinct on Thursday.

BRENTWOOD, Tennessee -- A Brentwood police officer was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning. 

Officer as Destin Legieza was returning to the precinct at the end of his shift when the crash occurred in front of Turner Farm and Brentwood Market on Franklin Road just before 6 a.m., according to The Tennessean.

The preliminary investigation indicates that another driver crossed the center line of the road while traveling north and struck Legieza's patrol vehicle head-on as he was traveling south.

The 30-year-old officer who has been with the department for five years is survived by his wife.

Legieza is the first Brentwood police officer to be killed in the line of duty in the history of the department.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
