A veteran Polk County deputy was killed in a crash in Winter Haven Friday morning.

Deputy Joseph "Shane" Robbins, 40, was found unresponsive inside the wreckage of his cruiser following the crash on Bomber Road around 9:15 a.m., according to The Orlando Sentinel.

The 15-year veteran of the agency was pulled from the car and transported to Winter Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the cause of the crash.
