A Santa Cruz County deputy was injured after his cruiser rolled over while responding to a call early Saturday morning.
Deputy Jorge Ainza was en route to a call for a gas leak at a residence around 5:47 a.m. when the crash occurred on Ruby Road, according to The Nogales International.
The sheriff's office received the call that there were young children inside the home who were unresponsive when their parents tried to awaken them.
Following the incident, officials said everyone was safely evacuated from the home and the young children were fine.
The six-year veteran responded and had his lights and siren activated when he lost control of the vehicle, rolling it three times.
Ainza was trapped inside and was extricated by rescue crews after approximately 40 minutes.
He was flown to University Medical Center in Tucson for treatment of a fractured vertebrae and was later released.
Officials said that Ainza would be out of work as he recovers from his injuries.
The crash is currently under investigation.
