Girl Flees Memphis Police, Mother Steals Cruiser
Jan. 9, 2012
A woman whose daughter was running from police stole a squad car this afternoon, officials said.
The incident happened about 1:10 p.m. in the area of Jackson and Trezevant in North Memphis.
Police were on the lookout for two people who were reported to be in the area.
When police arrived, a 12-year-old girl ran from them. An officer pursued her, apparently leaving his car unattended.
At that point, the girl's mother jumped into the squad car and took off.
Police eventually recovered the squad car in the 3200 block of Macon. Both mother and daughter are now in custody.
