NASHUA -- A 23-year-old Lowell man slammed into a parked state trooper's cruiser, then fled on foot into the woods just after midnight yesterday, police said.

According to police reports, the trooper, whose name was not released, was making a traffic stop in the southbound breakdown lane of the F.E. Everett Turnpike just south of Exit 1 in Nashua, with his cruiser lights fully activated at 12:05 a.m. The trooper was inside his cruiser when it was struck by a 2006 Monte Carlo allegedly driven by Erik Burk, 23, of Lowell.

Burk then fled the scene on foot. He was subsequently located by a State Police K9 unit and charged with conduct after an accident and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Neither Burk nor the driver of the vehicle stopped by the trooper was injured in the crash.

The trooper was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital. The accident shut down the low-speed travel lane for two hours.

The incident remains under investigation by Sgt. Nate Noyes of the N.H. State Police. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is urged to contact Noyes at Troop B at 223-4381.
